Start by writing the ideas down.
BookGoodies interviewed Chris Sund about You Are Capable of More: what inspires him to write, the authors he reads, how he built the book, his advice for anyone who wants to write one, and where publishing is headed.
What inspires you to write?
I have spent years leading and hiring people, and I kept seeing the same thing: people who were capable of far more than they were doing, held back by self-doubt rather than ability. When I surveyed 200 working adults for this book, 92% said they are capable of more than they are doing. That gap is what I write about.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
Adam Grant, Patrick Lencioni, John Maxwell, and Simon Sinek are some of my favorite authors.
Tell us about your writing process.
I start with real stories from my own life and career, then turn each one into practical steps a reader can use the same day. For You Are Capable of More I also surveyed 200 working adults, so the advice is grounded in what people actually struggle with. The book ends with a playbook readers can keep coming back to.
What advice would you give other writers?
If you are wanting to write a book, and haven’t yet, just get started by writing ideas down. Then over time take those ideas and compile them into groups, and start working on mini pieces. Those over time can develop into chapters and make writing more digestible.

How did you decide how to publish your books?
I published with Game Changer Publishing, a small press, which let me get the book out on my own timeline and keep it in my own voice while still having it professionally edited and designed.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Authors have more ways than ever to reach readers directly. I think the books that last will be the ones that give readers something practical they can use and come back to. What I love about books is that someone can take everything they have learned and we can get that out of a book. It’s like finding someone you admire and asking them for coffee while they share some wisdom with you.
