Unlock Your
Hidden Gear.
What lives on the other side of the comfort ceiling
- The idea, written plainly
- Why this is not about working harder
- Where the gear goes unused
- Four questions with room to write
- One action for this week
- Space for who will hold you to it
Most people already know this about themselves.
Our research found that more than nine in ten people believe they are capable of more than they are currently doing. That is close to everyone.
So this worksheet does not try to convince you of anything. You already have the quiet awareness that there is more in you than you have been asking for. What is missing is somewhere specific to point it.
It takes about fifteen minutes and it works on its own. You do not need to have read anything first.
Capable or convenient.
Convenient
The edge of what feels familiar. Tired, distracted, and the easier option sounds reasonable. It presents itself as a limit and it is not one.
Capable
What is still available when you choose not to let comfort make the decision. Usually further out than you would guess.
Comfort rarely announces when it has stopped serving you and started limiting you. It convinces you that you have already given your best when you have only given what felt convenient.
This is not about working yourself into the ground. It is about the specific moments where you back off out of habit rather than out of judgment, and learning to tell the difference is the whole skill.
The four questions.
- Where have you been coasting, giving what is convenient instead of your best?
- Describe a time you stayed in it longer than you wanted to. What did you find?
- What is an excuse that sounds reasonable but you know is comfort asking for the decision back?
- Where do you already know you have more to give but have not been asking it of yourself?
The second question is the one that does the convincing. Almost everyone can name a time they had no choice and found more than they expected. The capacity was already there. It just took an emergency to reach it.
The whole point of the worksheet is reaching it on purpose instead.
Use it on your own or with a team.
If you are on cruise control
Doing what is required, handling what is in front of you, and quietly aware that is not the same as your best.
If good enough keeps winning
The draft that goes out, the conversation that ends early. This finds the pattern rather than the one instance.
If you lead a team
Teams coast the same way individuals do, and nobody can see it from outside. Ask where you are all giving what is convenient.
For coaches and teachers
Free to copy and print for a class, a team, or a group. No permission needed and no attribution required.
The hidden gear is not another level of talent. It is another level of honesty.
